ANDREW HERRITY

Andrew Herrity, Ph.D.- Dean, Robert K. Jabs School of Business, California Baptist University

Andrew Herrity became the dean of CBU’s School of Business in July 2007. Since that time, the School has enjoyed an 80 percent increase in enrollment and has expanded its program offerings to include bachelor’s programs in accounting and marketing. Before assuming his current position, Herrity directed CBU’s MBA program which grew 300 percent during his tenure. Prior to CBU, Herrity was the founder and CEO of Mission Savings Bank.


 
 

ANTHONY DONALDSON

Dr. Anthony Donaldson received his B.S., M.S. and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1979, 1982 and 1990, respectively. He also received a M.A in Missions and Evangelism from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1994.

In the summer of 2006, Dr. Donaldson was hired by California Baptist University as the founding dean of the new school of engineering which had its first classes in the fall of 2007. From 1998 to 2006 he served as professor of electrical engineering and the director of the engineering programs at Seattle Pacific University where he led a successful accreditation effort and was responsible for numerous innovations in curriculum and facilities.

From 1994-1996 Dr. Donaldson and his family were in Bangalore, India, the “Silicon Valley of Asia”, where he raised venture capital for a native Indian’s vision and started a consultancy business in the telecommunications area.

In graduate school at Texas Tech, Dr. Donaldson worked on the “Star Wars” pulsed power project. His research in modeling electrode erosion in High Energy pulsed switches won critical acclaim and resulted in over 40 peer reviewed articles and conference presentations as well as a patent for a new type of material. The Chief Scientist of the Air Force who served on his committee remarked that it was an outstanding achievement. He won the International Pulsed Power Student award given to the best pulsed power student worldwide, the National Plasma Science award, a NATO sponsorship, the TTU outstanding EE graduate student award and the graduate student teaching award twice.

Dr. Donaldson is married to Darla who teaches statistics, finance and operations management at California Baptist University. They have two children, Daniel, who is in his first year of engineering and prelaw at CBU and Deborah who is a sophomore in high school in Riverside.

Originally from Texas, Dr. Donaldson enjoys music, archaeology, reading and cross cultural experiences.


 
 

CRAIG SHEWARD

CRAIG SHEWARD - ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR FOR TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA RIVERSIDE. 

Craig Sheward joined UC Riverside as the campus’s first Assistant Vice Chancellor for Technology Commercialization in 2007.  With his arrival to UC Riverside, the first technology commercialization office on campus was officially established.  Craig and his staff work closely with the many gifted and talented faculty and researchers at UC Riverside to facilitate the development, disclosure, intellectual property protection and commercialization of UC Riverside’s innovations for the public's use and benefit.

Prior to coming to UC Riverside, Craig was the Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at Oregon State University.  Craig has over 15 years experience in technology transfer which started at Sandia National Laboratories where he was instrumental in the formation of the first technology transfer program at Sandia.  His technology transfer experience ranges from directing programs in the national laboratories to both private and public university systems.

DAVID STEWART

David W. Stewart, Ph.D. is the Dean of the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Riverside.  Prior to coming to UCR he was a faculty member of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and served as deputy dean of the School for five years. Prior to moving to Southern California in 1986 he was senior associate dean and associate professor of marketing at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Stewart has authored or co-authored more than 200 publications and seven books.  His work received numerous recognitions, including the Elsevier Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award by the Society for Marketing Advances, the Cutco/Vector Distinguished Educator Award for lifetime contributions to marketing by the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Omicron Delta Kappa Men of Merit Award from Baylor University.  A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Professor Stewart received his B. A. from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and his M. A. and Ph.D. in psychology from Baylor University.

Professor Stewart's experience includes work as a manager of research for Needham, Harper, and Steers Advertising, Chicago (now DDB) and consulting projects for a wide range of organizations, including Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies, the Coca-Cola Company, Hughes, Texas Instruments, IBM, Intel, Century 21 Real Estate, Samsung, Visa Services, Xerox, and the US Federal Trade Commission, among others.

Dr. Stewart currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Inland Empire Economic Partnership, a member of the City of Riverside Council of Economic Development Advisors and a member of the Riverside Higher Education/Business Council. He is a member of the Leadership Riverside Class of 2009. He also hosts a monthly business leaders round table at UCR’s Palm Desert Graduate Center.

THOMAS O. BALDWIN

Dean, College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, University of California, Riverside; Associate Director, Agricultural Experiment Station, Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, State of California

Dr. Baldwin was appointed dean of CNAS in July 2008. He came to UCR from the University of Arizona, where he had been head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics and was the founding director of the Institute for Biomedical Science and Biotechnology. He had held previous faculty appointments at Texas A&M University and the University of Illinois and a postdoctoral appointment at Harvard. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and doctorate in zoology from the University of Texas, Austin.

A biochemist, Dr. Baldwin is best known for his research on “protein folding,” the biochemical process, vitally important to all of life’s processes, by which a protein assumes its three-dimensional structure. Protein misfolding leads to a number of disease states, including prion diseases such as “mad cow” disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

The recipient of numerous awards for scholarship and research, including a Fulbright Scholarship and a Fogarty Senior International Fellowship, Baldwin was recognized as a Faculty Fellow for excellence in science and academic leadership by Texas A&M and the Texas Agriculture Experiment Station.

A native of Mississippi, Baldwin is married to Miriam Ziegler, who is also a biochemist. They have two grown daughters.


 
 
 

JOHN TILLQUIST

John Tillquist is a researcher, senior administrator, expert witness, and angel capitalist.  He specializes in economic development, emphasizing high-growth, high-wage business development.  John has held technical and managerial positions at AT&T, GTE, and Ameritech, where he developed large-scale software systems for finance, marketing, and forecasting.  John holds an earned doctorate in computer science from the University of California, Irvine.  He has been a business school and engineering faculty at the University of British Columbia and the University of California, Riverside. 

John currently administers six economic development centers, eighteen federal and state grants, and is vice-president of the Inland Empire network of the Tech Coast Angels.  He holds several board positions, including the executive board of SmartRiverside, the Alliance for Commercialization of Technology, the Office of Technology Transfer at California State University-San Bernardino, among others.  John has been CEO and founding president for two software start-up businesses in California and in Canada.  With over 25 refereed academic publications and numerous white papers, John often provides insight and opinion for media, public officials, and legal cases.  He also consults for and mentors start-up technology companies throughout southern California.


 
 
 

LINDA PARKER


Linda Parker joined the UC Riverside development team in the beginning of 2008. As Assistant Dean of Development for the Bourns College of Engineering at UCR, Linda is a part of the University’s central development team and works specifically for the Bourns College of Engineering. In this capacity, she works strategically with the dean, department chairs, directors of interdisciplinary centers, faculty and staff to generate major support from corporations, foundations, and individuals for initiatives of the College.

Linda has a broad background in development and over the past 15 years has worked in the Midwest, Southeast and West Coast. Her other leaderships positions include serving as a vice president at Trident United Way in Charleston, South Carolina, as the Assistant Vice President for Development at California Baptist University, and as the Executive Director of the Parkview Community Hospital Foundation.

Linda is an alumna of UC Santa Cruz, is certified in planned giving through The College of William and Mary National Planned Giving Institute, and studied at The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

MIKE NAPOLI

Mike Napoli is the founder and Chairman of the Absolute Return Group. He has been mentoring and investing in early stage companies since 1997. He has been a member of the Tech Coast Angels (TCA), the largest angel investor network in the U.S., since 2000.  He is currently the President of the Tech Coast Angels Inland Empire Network and Vice President of the Coachella Valley Angel Network (CVAN). 

Mike was the Chief Investment Officer and head of Wilshire Associate's Hedge Funds Group and Funds Management Division. In this role, Mike worked with large institutional investors in the implementation and monitoring of equity, fixed income and alternative investment programs.  Mike was a member of Wilshire’s Board of Directors, Chairman of Wilshire Mutual Funds and a Director of the Wilshire Emerging Markets Institute. 

Mike has also held senior positions with Bankers Trust Company, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and UBP Asset Management, who is one of the world’s largest allocators of capital to private equity and hedge funds. 

Over the past 30 years, Mike’s responsibilities have included the analysis of the global economy and capital markets.  He also has a keen sense for what make a company successful. Mike has conducted investment due diligence and spoke at investment conferences around the world on global investment opportunities. He is also an author on various topics in the financial services industry. Additionally, while living in New York City, he was an adjunct professor at New York University. Mike has a business degree from Kent State University.


 
 

REZA ABBASCHIAN

Reza Abbaschian is William R. Johnson family professor and Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of California Riverside. He began his tenure as Dean of Bourns College of Engineering in September 2005. Prior to UCR, Dr. Abbaschian was the Vladimir A. Grodsky Professor of Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida where he also served as Chair of the Department for 16 years. During his tenure, the Department moved to the US News and World Report top ten ranking for both undergraduate and graduate education.

He received his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1971, M.S. degree in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1968, and B.Sc. in mining and metallurgy from Tehran University in 1964. He has produced more than 230 scientific publications on subjects ranging from metal processing, crystal growth, solidification, and intermetallic matrix composites to phase diagrams. He also has four patents, eight patent disclosures, and eight books, including the third edition of Physical Metallurgy Principles, which he co-authored.

Dr. Abbaschian is a past President of ASM International, the largest materials society. His awards include the 1998 TMS Educator Award, Structural Material Division’s 1999 Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award, TMS 1999 Leadership Award, 2003 ASEE Donald E. Marlowe Award, and 2002 Davis Productivity Award of the State of Florida. He was elected an ASM Fellow in 1992, TMS Fellow in 2000, and AAAS Fellow in 2007. He has joined the ranks of being an Eminent Engineer with Tau Beta Pi in 2007.
